Advanced Placement

University Credit Transfer

The Advanced Placement (AP) program, established over fifty years ago, is recognized for its excellence by over 98% of the universities in Canada, the United States, and over sixty countries. Successful completion of AP exams provides students with possible first-year university transfer credits, advanced placement or both. By earning university advanced placement, students may save both time and university tuition fees.

Admission officers at leading universities and colleges recognize the level of difficulty of the AP exams, and know that applicants with AP experience are better prepared for the rigor of university study. Each university decides which AP exam grades it will accept for credit and/or advanced placement. AP exams are graded from 1 – 5. Most institutions accept grades of 3 or higher.

The designation of AP Scholar is granted to students who receive grades of 3 or higher on three or more AP exams on full-year courses (or the equivalent). AP International Diplomas are awarded to students with grades of 3 or higher on four or more AP exams representing four different academic areas, including two different languages.

  • At Bronte College, the AP program curriculum is taught concurrently with academic pre-university courses. The open enrolment policy at Bronte College gives all senior students the opportunity to prepare for and write AP exams.
  • Teachers at Bronte College have been specially selected and trained in Advanced Placement Program instruction.
  • Prior to the May AP exams, tutorials are offered to all students registered to write an AP exam. Teachers conduct an intensive review, and students write a practice exam.
  • Canadians can benefit from an educational tax credit by passing the AP exams. Savings in university tuition fees and study time can be substantial.
  • Bronte College is one of the AP exam centers in Ontario. Students can write the AP exams in May at the school.

Bronte College is a founding member of the Council of AP Schools in Ontario (CAPSON).
