Cooperative (Co-op) Education Program
The Cooperative Education (Coop) Program offered by Bronte College of Canada is designed for students in Grade 11 and 12.
The Co-op program is a planned learning experience, for which credits are earned, that integrates classroom theory and learning experiences at a workplace to enable students to apply and refine the knowledge and skills acquired in a related curriculum course.
Why choose Co-op?
- Clarify your career plans and preferred working style
- Apply theoretical knowledge gained in the classroom
- Build your network of contacts
- Get hands-on experience
- Facilitate a smooth transition from school to work
How does Co-op work?
The Coop program involves an in-class and an on-site component.
The in-class component involves 20 hours of skills and experiences directly related to gaining and maintaining employment. The remaining 90 hours will be at the worksite where the Coop student participates in real work experiences at an actual real world organization.
Coop Education is a Credit Course
Offered as compulsory credit courses, the Coop program will reinforce and complement the academic courses that students have taken or will take.
Credits are granted based on the number of hours worked and multiple performance evaluations conducted by the employer, teacher and student.
For example, a student, who has taken or is taking International Business Grade 12 (BBB4M), will have an option of a Co-op placement with an Import/Export broker. The student receives one credit for completing BBB4M and one or more credits for the placement.
Benefits for the Student
- Develops the attitude and employability skills necessary to perform successfully in the working world
- Develops resume writing and job interview skills
- Becomes more aware of the demands of a competitive world
- Provides and alternative method of earning credits
- Expands on the skills studied at school in a focused, practical way
